Do you want to assist with environmental conservation & research or help with public education?
Do you want to learn what a career in environmental research or resource management is really like?

Preference will be given to University / College students over the age of 18

  • Preference will be given to Caymanian students working towards a degree in biology, ecology, conservation, environmental sciences or a related field.
  • Modest stipend offered (TBD)
  • 1 month minimum
  • Limited positions available


  • Experience in scientific research and procedures an asset
  • Physically fit and ability to work long hours outside in high temperatures either on land or on boats (without getting sea sick).
  • Mature, organised, reliable, adaptable, able to work well in a team. Able to develop and maintain working relationships with many different types of people.
  • Able to communicate well in English in writing, by telephone, and in person.
  • Competent in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiar with social media platforms & content creation
  • Make own arrangements to get to the DOE and back home at variable working hours.
  • Show motivation and initiative to learn.

Field conditions include high heat and humidity, insects, rugged and inclement working conditions. Hours will be irregular and will include early mornings, may include evenings, and weekends. In addition to field work, data entry, data analysis, and administrative work will take place at the Department of Environment office. General work week is Monday to Friday.

Certain positions may require persons to possess some of the following qualities:

  • A relevant degree
  • Previous relevant fieldwork experience
  • Able to work a minimum of two months
  • A full & clean driving license
  • Physically fit and able to lift and carry moderately heavy equipment, including on a rocking boat or through difficult terrain
  • Boating skills & experience
  • Strong swimming skills / comfortable on and in the water
  • SCUBA diving experience (100 dives logged, nitrox preferred).
