There are enough dive sites in the Cayman Islands to dive one every day of the year. And not get bored. In order to protect our reefs the Cayman Islands Department of Environment has installed over 365 public moorings for divers, yachters and fishers at various places around all three Cayman Islands.
Download the ‘Cayman DoE’ app to view the map and coordinates for public moorings in the Cayman Islands as well as Marine Park boundaries and fishing rules. Download links for mooring maps are also available at the bottom of this page.

Damaged or missing moorings may be reported to the Department of Environment on 949-8469 or email DoE@gov.ky.
General Use Public Moorings (white with yellow stripe):
- 18 inch moorings are for vessels less than 60 feet length in winds less than 20 knots.
- 24 inch moorings are for vessels less than 100 feet length in winds less than 20 knots.
- Time limit of 3 hours. No overnighting on moorings.
- Always check the condition of the mooring lines before beginning a dive.
- Run your own line through the eye in the mooring’s pick-up line to cleat the mooring to your deck, and use plenty of scope.
Visiting Yacht Moorings (orange with blue stripe)
- Only vessel 100 feet or less may tie to the mooring in winds less than 20 knots.
- Permission from Port Security is required before tying to the mooring.
- Always check the mooring lines before leaving the vessel unattended or before overnight use. Report any damage to Port Security.
- Ensure that your holding tank discharge is closed while in port. Discharge of sewage is an offence.
Public moorings should not be used when wind speeds reach or exceed 25 knots.
Please limit your use of the general moorings to 3 hours or less. Larger yacht moorings may be used for multiple days by visiting yachts but boat waste may not be released while moored. Dumping anything in Cayman waters is prohibited for all boaters. It is the responsibility of the boat operator to ensure that the mooring is in safe condition – do not leave the boat unattended while on the mooring.
Please use the public moorings provided.
Corals are a protected species in the Cayman Islands. It is an offence for boaters to anchor in any manner which causes damage to coral ANYWHERE in Cayman waters.
