Indigo Bunting

Length 14cm (5.5″). Fairly common passage migrant and winter visitor to the Cayman Islands. Prefers coastal and inland shrublands, gardens and urban areas, rough pasture and plantations. Indigo Buntings migrate at night, using the stars to guide their way. These skills are learned when they are young birds, from observation of the night sky- no small feat, as the constellations are in constant motion. Not to be confused with Blue Grosbeak.
