Length 23-26cm (9-10″). Irregular passage migrant to the Cayman Islands. Prefers flooded marl pits, mangrove lagoons, ponds and secondary swamps. Hovers over the water, dipping prey from the surface, occasionally diving. Occurs locally in small flocks. Often seen in association with stormy weather.
