Northern Mockingbird (Nightingale)

Length 23-28cm (9-11″). Very common breeding resident in the Cayman Islands. Prefers dry shrubland, but also common in disturbed and urban habitats. Sings a repeated and elaborate song, often incorporating the songs of other birds – (hence “polyglot” – a person who speaks many languages). Swooping flight. On landing, Mockingbirds have a habit of holding their tails vertically.
