Length 26-34cm (10-13.5″). Common winter visitor and passage migrant to the Cayman Islands. The Black-bellied Plover is our most common winter wader. Remains stationary for long periods, stood on reefs, shorelines, in secondary swamps, lagoons and ponds. Extremely sensitive to disturbance, the Black-bellied Plover is often the first bird to take flight when threatened, acting as a sentinel for other shorebirds.
