Short-billed Dowitcher

Length 26-30cm (10-12″). Common winter visitor and passage migrant to the Cayman Islands. Occasionally in flocks of up to one hundred individuals. Prefers lagoons, ponds, secondary and freshwater swamp. Forages on mud-flats; probing with its long bill, repeatedly moving up-and-down, like a sewing-machine needle. Call, a whistled three note, te-de-le. Not to be confused with the rare Long-billed Dowitcher, which has a very different call.
