White-rumped Sandpiper Flying

Length 18-20cm (7-8″). Common passage migrant to the Cayman Islands. Prefers lagoons, freshwater and secondary swamps. Occasionally seen on rough pasture and golf courses. Will wade into deep water and submerge its head in search of food. Takes its name from the white patch of feathers at the upper base of the tail, which shows well in flight.
