Length 53-61cm (21-24″). An uncommon, but regular passage migrant and winter visitor to the Cayman Islands. There are also instances of individuals setting up temporary residence in Grand Cayman. Forages along marine sounds and fringing reefs, roosting in coastal woodland and mangrove. Highly visible, circling slowly, high above coastal and inland water, scouting for fish. The Osprey will swoop dramatically from high up, talons outstretched, to snatch a fish from the surface of the water. Barbs on the soles of its feet help keep a grip on its slippery catch.
