Northern Rough-winged Swallow

Length 12.5-14cm (5-5.5″). Very uncommon passage migrant to the Cayman Islands, known only from a few observations on the three islands. The primary feathers possess hooked barbs, which are especially prominent in the male. These barbs make the feathers rough to the touch. The literal translation of Stelgidopteryx serripennis is “scraper wing saw feather”.
