Terrestrial Resources Unit

The Department of Environment operates a small Terrestrial Resources Unit, which deals with the protection of terrestrial biodiversity in the Cayman Islands, on behalf of the Cayman Islands Government.

Our work includes:

  • Establishing and managing terrestrial protected areas
  • Protection of native flora and fauna
  • Developing and implementing Species Conservation Plans
  • Monitoring and research on priority species and habitats
  • Implementation of terrestrial aspects of the National Conservation Law
  • Maintaining scientific collections (insectarium, herbarium etc)
  • Partnering with visiting scientists, local and international institutions, and volunteers
