Shady

Meet Shady, a sub-adult hawksbill turtle sponsored by airG! Shady is the second juvenile turtle we have satellite-tagged this year and the first hawksbill turtle to be tagged with a satellite tag in the Cayman Islands since the sea turtle project began.

airg corpShady is still a sub-adult, so she is currently in the foraging stage of her life and has chosen Cayman’s coral reefs as her feeding grounds. Hawksbills favourite foods are sea sponges, jellyfish and urchins!

In the next few years, she will reach maturity and enter the reproductive stage of her life. This is when things could get really interesting, as her future movements may help us understand where she comes from and which breeding population she belongs to.

For now, we’ll keep following Shady to learn more about how sub-adult hawksbills use Cayman’s reefs and where her journey takes her next!
